| SUMMARY
We have known for ages the precious value of drinking water.
Without it civilizations cease to exist. In today’s world water
is becoming an even more precious commodity. Increased
population and pollutants along with extended drought have made
potable water even more scarce and precious than ever.
Fortunately, technological advances in filtration systems have
made previously unusable sources suitable for consumption.
Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a process ever more commonly used to
convert brackish or ocean (salt) water to water suitable for
consumption or irrigation.
The challenge for RO system piping-
Through a high pressure filtration system water is made
“cleaner” than spring water. So clean that it removes ions
typically found in water, making it especially corrosive for
metallic piping products. Solid wall HDPE pipe however is
suitable for long term transmission and service lines in RO
systems.
Now on the waste side-
The RO filtration process produces a waste bi-product that needs
to be addressed. This by product is often highly corrosive. Once
again HDPE pipe is being used to pump this solution to holding
ponds, settling areas or deep water diffusers to eliminate the
byproduct.
