New Frac Sand Plant in Texas Chooses HDPE Pipe for Water System

(Granbury, Texas) A new frac sand plant was under construction in Granbury, Texas. The goal of the new plant was to increase frac sand production, compared to a previous plant's production levels. As part of the new plant construction, the company, Vista Sand, needed a new water system and wanted an experienced piping solutions provider who had worked with water systems before to supply the materials.

Solution

Vista Sand hired contractor Turn-key Processing Solutions (TPS) to engineer, design, and build the new plant. ISCO Industries previously worked with Vista Sand, supporting its existing sand plant from a slurry pump, process water pump, diesel pump, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, design support and services aspect. ISCO was then hired by TPS to supply the best piping solution for the water system, or "wet" processing side of the facility. This included the process water for sand classification, slurry transport of marketable materials and waste (tailings) disposal.

ISCO representative Charles Shugart worked with TPS to supply a total package for the water system that included all accessories directly tied to HDPE piping and pumps. ISCO's total package also included some design assistance, equipment, project management and installation of various components for the fresh water and slurry system for the new wash plant. This consisted of complete wet plant design support, engineering, installation and sales; five pumping systems with a support structure for each system; approximately 8,000 linear feet of HDPE pipe ranging from two- to 18-inches; complete fusion and installation services; slurry system measuring components; and a commissioning of the system.

Conclusion

The project lasted for approximately six weeks, moving quickly. Projects such as this, from inception to completion, typically last a minimum of one year and ISCO was able to provide support for TPS to have the plant operational four months after the initial ground breaking. The plant was completed and running in record time.

As a result, ISCO is now working with TPS at this location and throughout the U.S. on many other wet plant installations providing design support and equipment sales.

"ISCO's Charles Shugart was very good at identifying our urgent needs, and working with our demanding schedule to provide solutions to problems," said Danny Easterly, project manager for Vista Sand. "He was able to satisfy our goals for our new plant as well as continue to support our existing operation.

"ISCO provides quality support and a dedicated work ethic at a reasonable price."
